The Lighthouse Works depends on the generosity of individuals and foundations to provide critical support to artists every year. A gift to The Lighthouse Works promotes the central role of the arts in our society and also helps to sustain the cultural vitality of Fishers Island, New York. As a young organization, we are especially grateful for gifts that will assist us in growing our program, enabling us to help more artists and to have more of an impact on our community each year.
There are many ways to support fellows working on Fishers Island. Gifts to The Lighthouse Works may be designated for Fellowships for artists working in a particular discipline. Others may underwrite facilities acquisition and other capital needs, or help to provide public programs, special equipment, studio improvement, and endowment funds. Naming opportunities are available for gifts at various levels. The Lighthouse Works gratefully accepts donations in the form of cash, bequests, property, and in-kind gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations. All gifts of any size will be directed entirely to support the fellowship program and community programs and will be recognized in The Lighthouse Works’ annual report.
You may make a gift online through our confidential and secure online portal. Gifts can also be made by check, payable to The Lighthouse Works, or by credit card over the phone or via email. Please contact us for instructions about wire transfers and gifts of securities. We’re very grateful for your support.
Fellowships at The Lighthouse Works are provided at no cost to the artists, thanks to generous support from the public. Each Fellowship covers the costs of a single artist’s residency for a period of six weeks, including housing, meals, studio space, and a stipend.
Support Fellowship – A gift of $5,000 provides an annual fellowship to an artist, covering the basic expenses of the artist’s residency on Fishers Island. The Lighthouse Works awards up to 15 fellowships a year for talented, hardworking artists in a variety of disciplines.
Full Fellowship – A gift of $10,000 provides an annual fellowship to an artist, covering both the expenses incurred in providing for the artist and the associated costs of studio rental, maintenance and upkeep, insurance and administration, and events and promotion. This support may be renewed annually and/or given for a series of years.
Endowed Fellowship – A gift of $100,000 establishes an Endowed Fellowship that will underwrite a Fellowship each year in perpetuity. Multiple Fellowships may be endowed.
Both Full and Endowed Fellowships carry naming opportunities. Fellowships may also be designated to support a specific discipline, as agreed upon by the donor and The Lighthouse Works. These gifts will be recognized, with the donor’s approval, in The Lighthouse Works’ annual report and on its Web site. Donors receive reports each year about the recipients of their Fellowships and are welcome to visit the artists and view their exhibitions on Fishers Island.
